Rajarata University of Sri Lanka
The Rajarata University of Sri Lanka was established on 7th November 1995 by the Hon. Richard Pathirana, Minister of Education and Higher Education, under the provisions of the Universities Act. No. 16 of 1978 and was ceremonially inaugurated by Her Excellency the President on 31st January 1996. It was established for the purpose of providing, promoting and developing higher education in the fields of Social Sciences and Humanities, Management Studies, Agricultural Sciences, Applied Sciences subsequently expanded for Medical & Allied Sciences and Technology.
The University is the successor to the former Affiliated University Colleges at the Central, Northwestern and North Central Provinces which were amalgamated to form the Rajarata University on the recommendations made by a committee appointed by the Hon. Minister of Education and Higher Education in 1995. The University has its main campus located at beautiful surroundings of Mihintale, overlooking the Mihintale rock temple. This site is historically important as the center at which the Buddhist civilization was introduced.
It is 10 km away from the ancient capital of Anuradhapura, the capital of the renowned hydraulic civilization in Sri Lanka. The University has six Faculties: Social Sciences and Humanities, Management Studies, Technology and Applied Sciences are located at Mihintale while other two, Faculty of Agriculture and Faculty of Medicine and Allied Sciences are located in Puliyankulama and Saliyapura respectively. University has the strategic advantage of serving the higher educational needs of the entire North Central Province and the country with the resource based available.
Faculty of Technology
The Faculty of Technology of the Rajarata University was established with effect from January 2017 and all the academic activities are now conducted in the new building complex located in the Mihintale University Premises near to the Faculty of Applied Sciences. The faculty was established as the 6th faculty attached to the Rajarata University with an annual intake of 245 as the first batch of students. Recently, the Faculty increased int’s annual intake to 340 students (2021 intake). At present, the faculty consists of five departments that offer 5 distinctive degree programmes which are conducted in English medium as follows.
